The lazy way to cook a delicious (low carb) meal

Main course: Baked Salmon

1. Mix 1 tsp of salt, basil leaves, parsley flakes, lemon juice and 2 gloves of garlic in a bowl (i use minced garlic that comes in a bottle)

2. Place two slices of salmon on an aluminium foil.

3. Pour the mixture in step 1 on to the fillets

4. Leave it to marinate for 1 hr. (in the mean time, you could always hit the gym)

5. (When you're back from the gym) Place your salmon into the oven. Preheat oven to 190C.

6. Leave it to bake for 35-40 mins. (in the mean time, take a good shower)

7. Dinner is served.

Bloody hell. i was supposed to add black pepper, but someone at home THREW IT AWAY!!!
URgh

Tomorrow, its gonna be baked paprika chicken

I can't believe i went grocery shopping today, spending so much time (and money of course) on herbs and spices. I want a big big collection of spices like Jamie Oliver. He grows his own spice (i think. cuz he always plucks them from a pot).

Do we always end up doing what we never intended to do?

This is one of life's greatest mystery I could bet my last penny on, that neither Albert Einstein nor Descartes are able to solve.

Maybe its human's nature, or perhaps it's one of God's experiments. Most of us walk through an arduous path, in hope of reaching our destination, but instead of reaching our intended destination, we make a detour, and we end up somewhere we never intended to go from the start. Some made a detour before they realised they want to go somewhere , while others simply took another path, in which they know won't bring them to their where they were supposed to go.

You see, one of the interesting things about life is that, it can't be lucidly explained using science, math, philosophy, sociology or even psychology. This makes me wonder what is life per se?

Take myself for example. I've gone through over ten years of education. Studying science, math, art blah blah. Then in Secondary 2, my ambition was to be a botanist (everyone laughed) I read up on plants anatomy, adaptations, etc etc. I studied science in JC. When i was in JC, i didn't think botany would be a feasable subject in Sg. I was clueless, but i studied Biology nonetheless. As time goes by, biology- related field was what i wanted to do. So i pursued a degree in Life Science. I did cell biology, molecular biotechnology, pharmacology. I thought all that had good prospects, especially with the booming R&D industry in Sg. Clearly by Yr 2, i couldn't forsee myself working in a lab nor doing research. Every lab session was a sheer torture. 6 excruciating hours each time, coupled with lab reports. Many times, i asked myself, why did i even choose something like this? From then, i knew i was never going into research. I didn't even apply for the university research programme, which many of my peers did. I was sick of being in the lab.

As i went through my final semester in Uni, i was toying with the idea of a) get an office job b) read up on investments, and see where i could go from here c) make full use of my degree, and try working in the lab (even though i hate it) I chose option C

I didn't want to waste my degree, together with the 15k i spent on that stupid piece of paper aka Bachelor of Sci. I took up a job in the lab. It isn't a research lab, but more like a diagnostic lab. For once i didn't have to do lab report, or use sophisticated automation to map genes. I am glad. But still, i've been thinking alot to myself, -just how long can i ever stay in this lab? Because, from the start, i never wanted to work in the lab, and now, it feels like i'm not doing justice to myself. Why am i doing all these for? So the money spent on my education wouldn't go down the drain, or i just want to make things look prim and proper, like a matching set of bedsheet and quilt cover. Imagine the horrifying expression of ppl's face when you tell them you studied life science, and now you're a eg, photojournalist.

But at least i know i've made an attempt to reach my 'intended' destination. For now, i don't want to think too much about the future. No one knows what the future holds. I could still be working in the lab 10 yrs later, or maybe be an entrepreneur. Haha. Ever since i've graduated, i've never closed my doors to any business opportunities. Reading up on money-making/thinking of business ideas is just one of my favourite past times. Most won't understand about my eagerness to make big money, for they've never felt the pinch of paying for their own tertiary education.

With that, i leave you with a candid confession - i really should've gone to SMU (even though biz was what i never intended to do from the start)

The tables have turned

Couple of years ago, i was always the one collecting ticket stub, making sure the other half keeps his ticket stub. Now, things have changed. It's like a role reversal.

I've finally met a guy who keeps his ticket stubs, and offers my ticket stub to me. I don't really bother about stubs these days. All these nitty gritty stuff isn't significant at all or sort.
It seems like i'm so much less of a sentimental person these days. Not even penning down memorable events/true feelings whatever.. Ah, and i think i just lost my ticket stub.

Oh, and pity those lads in uni who got hit by the viral conjunctivitis. Haha. what a joke.
Spray some disinfectant, get yourself some PPE (personal protective equipment) Must warn T.
For all you know, thats bioterrorism for you.

Incoherence

I'm currently eyeing on this 7.2 Megapixel camera.

There is nothing wrong with my current digital camera though.

Gawd, pls help me!
I must stop all these insane impulsive spendings.

But hey, its not like i have any other commitments (besides bank loan and household contributions).

Actually, right now, my life is about meself- work, gym, reading, spending on myself, hanging out, dating occassionally. In all honesty, i don't think i'll ever end up with any of the guys i go out with. Haha. Being single saves me tonnes of troubles and problems.
me is an independent girl. Speaking of independence, i can't wait till i'm really a full fledged independent adult. I hope to move out once i'm financially stable. Stay in a nice nifty apartment alone, with no one to bother me.

My First (and hopefully last) Post Mortem Experience

As you all know, i work in a histopathology lab.
Everyday, i see and handle specimens. From the smallest 0.1cm polyp to an entire colon.
So you see, my superior suggested we all go observe post mortem for a day. Afterall, she said we might be needed during post mortem, if ever there's some sorta epidemic going on in Sg, and plus, it is kinda related indirectly to our job scope.
Post mortem. Cool, very CSI you say. Well, not till you've gone for one.

I arrived at HSA promptly at 745am. I didn't know they start post mortem only at 930am, because of the coroner's procedures, identification of the bodies and paper work etc. So i waited in the office, spending my 1 hr plus watching the CCTV. In the room were 9 bodies lying side by side on those metal trolleys. The mortuary attendants were checking their identification, photographs were taken. Then, next of kin proceeded to the gallery to identify the body. My heart sank, when i saw devastation in them. Follwing which, the doctors and police inspectors would assist the coroner in deciding whether or not a post mortem has to be done on the victim.

Finally, when all the paper work had been settled, i was brought to the changing room to change into scrubs. I had to put on another disposable gown over my scrubs, i had to wear one of those surgical caps and of course, boots to protect my feet.

I walked into the autopsy room. In front of me were 4 bodies. Each body was laid beside an individual sink. Some stark naked, while others had clothes on. The first i saw was extremely disturbing. And i do not wish to talk about it further. The pathologists would look for superficial abrasions and lesions, measure them, chart them down. Some of the bodies were bloated, in rigor mortis. Some became extremely white, while others, looked normal. The smell was repulsive even though i had a mask on. I'm glad i didn't have to see anything badly decomposed. Generally, what the attendants do is they cut open the body longitudinally with a scapel from the chest right down to the abdomen. One good clean cut is all you need. The rib cage were sorta 'cracked' using a spanner-like tool, and then removed. Lungs, kidneys, liver, heart, everything were being taken out. You see, i'm not scared of the organs at all. It's the process of seeing how they cut up the body which scares me. My supervisor told me, not to look at their face, and take it as though everyone there is sleeping. That's not the worst. Lo and behold, an attendant took out a rotary saw took and began cutting the skull. One sharp cut is all it needs, to leave a clean and neat cut. This was disturbing. The scalp was drooping over the deceased face as he cut the skull. The body was cut with great expertise such that it didn't look messy. Not as bloody as you think it might be.

That 20 mins was good enough to leave a lasting impression. Somehow that whole cutting up scene kept replaying in my head for the past 2 hours. I've lost my appetite. I couldn't bear to stay any longer to observe till the end, where they eventually stitch the body back.

I don't really know how to describe. Heart-wrenching? Yes, for the casualty in the car accident. But at the same time, it makes me cringe to see dead bodies being cut opened.
I know death is part of life. Therefore, i think all doctors especially forensic pathologists and motuary attendants deserve some recognition. Without them, who's gonna do the dirty job?

I'm blogging about this the moment i got home, thats because after this, i'm not gonna think about it anymore.

Always wondered what girls carry in their 'miniture' handbags?

May i present to you, the 6 essential things girls should not leave home without (makeup excluded)

In a clock-wise fashion:

  1. Facial Blotter ( to remove grim on your face. who needs an outbreak?)
  2. Wallet (consisting of ID, creditcards, cash, coins)
  3. iPod Nano (such a sleek gadget fits snugly into our tiny handbags)
  4. Comb (need i say more?)
  5. Dental Floss (never leave home without it. You wouldn't want to be caught dead with spinach stuck in between your teeth)
  6. Tissue Paper (if you don't carry this, you're definitely not a girl)

Save Me!

I bought another 3 tops today.
I totally forgot i bought 2 just one week ago.

A grand total of 5 tops in a bag, unwashed, haven't worn.

I hope i don't buy anything next week.

GAH!

Gawd i'm so tired

I honestly hope i'm not suffering from over-exhaustion.
There's only so much my body can take.
Sigh

Next week:
Post Mortem
Health Check up

That Phone Call

It's funny how one phone call can evoke so much memories.
That familiar voice, that heavy australian accent made me miss him and Sydney, and the ppl whom i go
t to know there.
Mike gave a surprise call the moment i ended work. Strange how he likes making all these out-of-the-blue calls/text just to ask how i'm doing and stuff. heh. I think i should bug him to drop by Singapore.

Certainly, he made me miss Sydney a hell lot. I still remember during this time, i had to attend briefings, go through rounds of interviews, submit many application forms and stuff. But it was all worthwhile.

I miss the weather over there, i miss shopping there. Life was perfect. Everyday was a happy day. So much shopping, and hanging out, and meeting new ppl and the crazy fun we had. Ahh. I'm so glad i followed my heart. Going abroad without the parentals is excellent fun.

I think i deserve a good holiday at the end of this year.
Afterall, i've been deprieved of my graduation road trip

damn it.

random

I just remembered i need to clock at least 15km of running each week.
I keep forgetting to total up the distance.
This also explains why i bought so many FBT shorts($8) and trashy T shirts ($4) (read: army t shirts)
Can be used for running or PJs. I prefer the latter.

Everybody loves retail therapy

Spent the entire day with my dad today, cuz my mom's not ard and everyone else isn't really free.
For starters, i went to do my hair. A good highlight, dye and a neat hair cut. My dad waited 2.5 hrs for me.
Then, we had lunch at Beach Road Hawker. Great food, albeit abit stuffy. We went to the army market. You can definitely find a few gems there, besides all the army stuff. And i made my dad wait again for 30mins, because i was busy trying on the tops. I bought my dad and myself a Nalgene water bottle each. Blue for him, green for me.
We drove to parkway and had dinner there. Then i think he instigated me to buy a phone, because he was sick of me complaining and whining about that thrashy Samsung phone. You know how wishy washy i can be, especially when it comes to buying gadgets which isn't exactly very cheap. I made my dad wait again, while i contemplated. Took me 1 hr. Gawd.
Then i went to Topshop to try on clothes while my dad waited patiently outside for me. They didn't have the colour i wanted. Gah

And for all that, my dad definitely deserves a standing ovation for his awesome patience. No wonder my mom tells me my dad makes a great shopping partner.

I love my dad to bits.

Here are my buys for the day

Ultimate Pet Peeve

To have my hair smell like
a) bbq charcoal
b) cigarrettes smoke

As the title of this post suggests, more often than not, i get extremely annoyed whenever i come home with bad smelling hair. Oh gawd. Imagine, having a nice shower, smelling of Dove showerfoam, your hair so prim and nice smelling, and then 2 hours later, you come back smelling so rotten. Even the smell of xylene isn't that repulsive.

Just got back from that horrid over-rated Fishermen's Village with Bud. Funny how neither of us know the way. 45 mins drive can! Me= night blindness + no sense of direction. I hate that place. Exorbitant food, stupid dim lights (read: I can't even read what's on the menu), trashy food, bad drinks, lack of fresh air, crowded. The list could go on.

You know where's way better? I think it's gotta be the one merv brought me to. Some place at the tanah merah chalet. Not many know about that place too. Same concept. Deffo nicer than trashy fishermen's. They should just call it the kellong@pasir ris. The one at tanah merah has excellent ambience. You could choose to sit indoor, or outdoor. You could hear the sound of waves, then there's the occasion airplane flying by. Very peaceful and quiet, food is good and really cheap. And the best part, you don't come back with smelly hair because its not all that crowded.

Shocker of the week: I can't believe Tockers bumped into good old Paul aka Mr Intern at D&N. Bloody smart ass. wah, i can't believe 7 years flew past just like that.

On life and goals etc

I think i've kinda missed my sleeping time. Now i'm pretty wide awake.
Shall ramble abit before i try to sleep. I've got things to do in the morning. urghh

So lets see..
I feel that my life has changed so much. I was browsing old pictures, dated between 2002-2005. My gawd. I didn't believe myself for a moment. I couldnt believe i went through all that. So scary.
I didn't view every damn pictures. Just found it hard to swallow, becuz of who i was then, and who i am now. The stark contrast!. Tsk. I questioned myself, was that really me last time. Tied down, committed, foolish. Haha.

I guess we all grow up. We move on in life, we meet new ppl, we find new things to do, our personality may change a little, for better or for worst. I think i can finally say that i've grown up.
No more tantrums, no more idealistic fantasies, no more infactuations. I feel like i'm getting more and more serious by the day. I don't know. And, my expectations are somehow high, yet realistic.

Gone were the days where everything revolves around studying and socializing. I guess the only time you grow up and learn is when you say goodbye to exams and books. Only then, you see the true value of the word 'independence " and "responsibilities". I don't know what life's gonna be like 10 yrs from now. Bigger burden, more problems.

Life is really short. Cliche as it may sound, i always believed in cherishing every moment in life. Which kinda explains why i'm pretty sentimental. Haha. Less sentimental now to be honest. Friends are going "omg, i can't believe we've started working". Well, hey for all you know, we could be attending each other's wedding's dinner. Ah, not mine at least. 'Marriage' is one hell of a scary word, which equates to lifelong commitment.

I read somewhere that, the passion is not exactly the key factor in maintaining a marriage. Well, passion dies, just like a flame. My guess would be tolerance, forgiveness and love. Passion will die off eventually, but i don't suppose you could stop loving a person.

On a lighter note, i hope to go somewhere end of this year
I'm thinking Europe, Taiwan or Shanghai.
Why these 3 places? Because i get free accomodation! Am i brilliant or what?

This post is absolutely random, with no link between paragraphs
Just ignore me.

I haven't been bitching for a long time

Here goes.

I realised there are a couple of things about guys that irk me quite a bit.

#1 Guys who don't even offer to send girls home. They don't even ask. Where is the chivalry? (minus 1000 points)
#2 Guys who ask "Do you need me to send you home". (minus 500 points).Oobviously no girls would be so thick skinned as to say "yes, pls send me home". 90% of the time when guys ask me this question, i would kindly say "no", but i appreciate his sweet gesture. Totally. The 10% is when, it's way too late, and i'm scared to go home. Haha. I actually run to my doorstep. How funny.

Yeah i know you gonna be like, don't be a stupid dumbass, you want the guy to ask you, but you gonna say no, and tell them that you can go home on your own.
You don't get my point do you?
As a girl, i always like this chivalry in men. You know, like how they offer to pay for things, send you home, or give in to you, etc. Before you think, i'm a full-fledged feminist, i am not.

Well lets see, the type of guys that i would award 2000 points to are those who are straightforth and gentlemanly. They don't even ask. All they do is "Hey, let me send you home". No questions asked. Haha. And you know what my answer will always be whenever they say that. Unless that guy's an big big pest. This is chivalry. Taking initiatives, being the knight in that shiny armour. HAHA. Right.
