Butch Walker's Love Songs for The Soul

Best Thing You Never Had

Hello how you doing?
What's it like to ruin all my self esteem
Let me blow off some steam
For 5 years I've waited,
So why am I jaded to get back at you
What makes it cool

When you act like nothing ever happened
I feel like I should feel bad
But I can't like someone who thought
They're the only one that mattered
I hope that you're flattered
Cause you broke this down
The best thing that you never had

And it seems like a loss somehow
My heart got lost on the way to my head
And my brain cells are dead
And the craziness shows
Now I start to go when the green turns to red
And I should be dead

When you act like nothing ever happened
I feel like I should feel bad
But I can't like someone who thought
They're the only one that mattered
While my heart got shattered like romantic roadkill
My heart is all splattered your ego got fatter
And I hope that you're flattered
Cause you broke this down
The best thing that you never had

Like the toilet seat never got lifted
And I pissed on your confidence
When you weren't around, how can that be?
Don't turn this around
You were the one
Who drove my ass right to the ground

When you act like nothing ever happened
I feel like I should feel bad, and I can't like

Someone who thought
They're the only one that mattered
While my heart got shattered like romantic roadkill
My heart is all splattered your ego got fatter
And I hope that you're flattered
Cause you broke this down
You broke this down
The best thing, the best thing,
The best thing that you never had

You never had...

Cigarette Lighter Song

I know you're not asleep
I can feel you moving over there
You've been playing with the seam
In your worn out underwear

My lips are raw as hell
From biting on them just to stay awake
It's not like I'm gonna need them
You won't be around
To see them bleed and break

CHORUS:
All...all that I do
Comes back to you
So I'll just think about you til there's nothing new in my head
All...all I can do
Is try not to screw this up again
And just be friends
I'd rather be dead

I drove out of East Atlanta
With a headache the size of my car
I called to say that I was okay
Cuz i know how you are

I'm like a movie without an ending
You know I've got nowhere to go
And it makes me wanna throw up
To see you wanna give up
More than you'll ever know

CHORUS

Everything's supposed to have a happy ending
But the record keeps spinning and the needle keeps bending
Like the road I'm driving to the bridge that has no end
I wanna take back everything that I've broken
But the bridges behind me are burning and smoking
I guess this is the end

Tangled

It's such a pity though, to have things left off that way.
It's not easy finding someone whom you connect with at every level, albeit the 5 years age gap. Nonetheless, i would think it's quite a rare catch to have someone whom you could see a future with, connect with, and to have feelings nurtured over time.

Sigh.

10 days since we last talked, only until recently he called. Truth be told, it was pretty awkward. I'd like to adhere to the "Out of sight, out of mind" policy. But hearing his voice, or bumping into him at the training last week, kinda made me a little tangled.

So today,i actually decided to be polite and give him a call. He was down with a bout of flu and fever. Then it kinda dawned on me that, i still cared for him,but i'm just holding back, acting non chalant about it. Maybe this is a self defensive mechanism. Knowing that we probably won't end up together, i'd rather not jeopardise my tangled heart and put it into something which i know won't give me much of a thing called happiness.

And as we were talking, a raw nerve was being struck when he mentioned celebrating the first gf's bday. Gees. This is really strange. And i feel that he's starting to give me this vibe that he doesn't really know what he wants in life. I dont think he knows seriously. He's a scatterbrain , a utopia dreamer, too much of an optimist sometimes, which made me jittery. For a down to earth person like me, dreams simply don't exist unless you fight for it. Dreams won't come true if you keep dreaming and hoping.

He didn't fight for me. All he had was hope. Hoping that the situation would change, hoping that he would've had the chance to be with me. This was enough to tear me apart, and come to a decision for us to not be romantically involved.

Times like these, i wish things would be more clear cut, i wouldn't be tangled up in him and myself.

When we were about to hang up, a simple "thank you for calling" from him made me realise that we've gone back to being friends.

I really didn't want things to turn out that way. Whatever happen to us going through all these together. Everything he said just seemed politcally correct; now as i read or recall everything he used to tell me, they don't seem to make any rational sense.

Over You - Chris Daughtry

Now that it's all said and done,
I can't believe you were the one
To build me up and tear me down,
Like an old abandoned house.
What you said when you left
Just left me cold and out of breath.
I fell too far, was in way too deep.
Guess I let you get the best of me.

Well, I never saw it coming.
And I should've started running
A long, long time ago.
And I never thought I'd doubt you,
I'm better off without you
More than you, more than you know.
I'm slowly getting closure.
I guess it's really over.
I'm finally getting better.
And now I'm picking up the pieces.
From spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together.
'Cause the day I thought I'd never get through,
I got over you.

You took a hammer to these walls,
Dragged the memories down the hall,
Packed your bags and walked away.
There was nothing I could say.
And when you slammed the front door shut,
A lot of others opened up,
So did my eyes so I could see
That you never were the best for me.

How apt. I should've started running long long time ago. I shouldn't even have waited till now. Big mistake on my part. And I'm better off right now. It's amazing how songs can sometimes describe every inch of how you feel.

Anyway, two things in my life right now.

1. Work
2. Gym

okay fine, and shopping. But shopping has always been part of my life, so its not really counted as things in my life NOW.

With all that, i'm pretty much contented.

I'm not that hard to please what!
